Two Days Away - an update

I hope this finds you well, and that by the time you read it your power is back on! Last time I looked at this site 730 additional Wharton homes should receive power today (Sunday) or tomorrow.  We'll see . . . .

But Tuesday is 2 days away - that much we know.

In the spirit of full disclosure you should know that I have accepted additional responsibilities at work that will require significantly more travel.  It will affect my board meeting attendance, to what extent I don't know.  On the bright side, these responsibilities put me right back to serving public K-12 school districts in the eastern half of the US - I'm pretty excited to have the opportunity.  This may impact your decision to write me in, but a few things to keep in mind:

The lowest attendance rate for a current board member over the past year in 52%; the next poorest is 67%.  I'm fairly certain I can do better.

Secondly, I'll share with you my biggest concern for the school, and if this doesn't convince you to write me in then I ask that you at least start to attend board meetings immediately (I see few if any public at our board meetings).

I am convinced that the board is poised to replace the current superintendent with someone with ZERO classroom experience.  I hope I am wrong.  But here are the facts: the board has invested over $3,000 for the business administrator to pursue "alternate route" certification that would enable her to serve as a superintendent.  If I am wrong, then the board is simply very generous to the staff.  And I should tell you that the board has another explanation for the expenditure that I'm not buying.

But whether I am written-in as board member or not, I will be vocal in my objection to selecting a person with no classroom experience as superintendent of Wharton Schools.  And I hope to see you in the audience at board meetings to speak up as well.

In any event, this is a critical election in so many ways, both nationally and locally.  I hope you can get out and vote.  If I can help, or if you have any questions about this post or anything else, please reach me at 973-366-2845.
