Changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes . . .

Every organization goes through change, and not always is it intentional.  School board atmosphere can change in one or two election cycles, leaving long-time board members to ask, "What just happened?" This occurs as a result of failing to create a strong, positive, sustainable board culture.

Practical steps should be taken, and one of those should be either a re-commitment to board norms - the standard or pattern, especially of social behavior, that is typical or expected of a group - or simplification of those norms.  What are the bare minimum standards of  individual and group behavior that we will find acceptable as a team?

My board operates under a long list of norms that are no longer followed.  This article highlights the importance of norms, but keeping them simple and concise.  I thought it was worth sharing here, from Harvard Business Review.
